CONCORDANCE
Siti Maissarrah and I was discussed about concordance and summarize the article titled “Beyond Concordance Lines: Using Concordance to Investigate Language Development”, by Arshad Abd Samad. Concordance is a listing of Keywords in Contexts (KWIC) while Concordancer is a tool or a program (software) that helps to list the words in context. Purpose for concordance is to analyze the text and it’s suitable for those who want to study texts closely or analyze language in depth. Arshad Abd. Samad wrote about language productivity, range vocabulary, and sophistication of vocabulary. Language productivity in his article indicated by the number of sentences per essay and the words per sentence. In range of vocabulary, the diversity f the vocabulary used in a corpus is often determined by calculating the type of token ratio. This ratio is calculated by dividing the number of separate words in a text (type) by the number of words in text (token). Sophistication of the vocabulary can be determined by using specialized software, a vocabulary analysis program, which gives an indication of the kind of vocabulary used. The program analyses text by comparing it to several based lists of frequently used of words. Arshad was concluded that the result of concordance and analysis indicate some form of development in terms of language production as well as vocabulary range and sophistication. Equally important, the articles demonstrate that corpus data can be analyzed to inform language educators of language development.
We can use concordance to make indexes and word lists. Secondly, we can use it to counting word frequencies. This can help us to make sure our work easier. Other than that, using concordance, we can compare different usages of a word, analyze keywords, find phrases and idioms, and publish it to the web. Applications of concordance, besides language teaching and learning we also can apply concordance as a data mining and data clean-up. Like Siti Maissarrah and me, we use it as our literary work and linguistic. Concordances are frequently used as a tool in linguistics that can be used for the study of a text, such as: comparing different usages of the same word, analysing keywords, analysing word frequencies, finding and analysing phrases and idioms, finding translations of subsentential elements, e.g. terminology, in bitexts and translation memories, creating indexes and word lists (also useful for publishing)
Based on Wikipedia; ‘a concordance is an alphabetical list of the principal words used in a book or body of work, with their immediate contexts. Because of the time and difficulty and expense involved in creating a concordance in the pre-computer era, only works of special importance, such as the Bible, Qur’an or the works of Shakespeare, had concordances prepared for them.’
Even with the use of computers, producing a concordance (whether on paper or in a computer) may require much manual work, because they often include additional material, including commentary on, or definitions of, the indexed words, and topical cross-indexing that is not yet possible with computer-generated and computerized concordances.
However, when the text of a work is on a computer, a search function can carry out the basic task of a concordance, and is in some respects even more versatile than one on paper.A bilingual concordance is a concordance based on aligned parallel text.
A topical concordance is a list of subjects that a book (usually The Bible) covers, with the immediate context of the coverage of those subjects. Unlike a traditional concordance, the indexed word does not have to appear in the verse. The most well known topical concordance is Nave’s Topical Bible.
The first concordance, to the Vulgate Bible, was compiled by Hugo de Saint Charo (d.1262), who employed 500 monks to assist him. In 1448 Rabbi Mordecai Nathan completed a concordance to the Hebrew Bible. It took him ten years. 1599 saw a concordance to the Greek New Testament published by Henry Stephens and the Septuagint was done a couple of years later by Conrad Kircher in 1602. The first concordance to the English bible was published in 1550 by Mr Marbeck, according to Cruden it did not employ the verse numbers devised by Robert Stephens in 1545 but “the pretty large concordance” of Mr Cotton did. Then followed the notorious Cruden’s Concordance and Strong’s Concordance.
Inverting a concordance
A famous use of a concordance involved the reconstruction of the text of some of the Dead Sea Scrolls from a concordance.
Access to some of the scrolls was governed by a “secrecy rule” that allowed only the original International Team or their designates to view the original materials. After the death of Roland de Vaux in 1971, his successors repeatedly refused to even allow the publication of photographs to other scholars. This restriction was circumvented by Martin Abegg in 1991, who used a computer to “invert” a concordance of the missing documents made in the 1950s which had come into the hands of scholars outside of the International Team, to obtain an approximate reconstruction of the original text of 17 of the documents.
As a English Literature students, here, we give some examples of the concordance that we got from the ISU Play Concordance : The Death Of A Salesman that we was studied in Critical Appreciation course and we apply it as a concordance usage.
Examples of the applications of concordance in literary work and linguistic.
The examples usage of A, Back, At, Be,and The in the different type of sentences :
1.1 ::A :=Willy: I’ll see him in the morning; I’ll have a nice talk with him. I’ll get him a job
1.1 ::A :=Willy: a nice talk with him. I’ll get him a job selling. He could be big in no time.
1.1 ::A :=Linda: Willy, dear, I got a new kind of American-type cheese today.
1.1 ::A :=Linda: I just thought you’d like a change –

Besides, I also try to visited the websites that was suggested by my friends and lectures and, yes it is really effective for me.

2. Do you think that blog is a useful learning experience for you?

For me, learning experience is something subjective. We can learn from anywhere, anytime, anyone, and anything that we was facing everyday. So, one of my useful learning experienes is from blog. For the 3rd task that has given by our lecturers is quite different from the 1st and 2nd posting. We need to go to PTSL cafe to completed this task. We need to find online journal and summarise the articles that related to the topics that has given.
What is online journal??
Online journal is likely to be like an educational site which it has an editorial control. Journal of all kinds have editors or editorial boards who review submissions and perform a quality control function to ensure that all material appearing in the journal meets the expectations. Journal is a place where new ideas emerged from people that are sharing the journal in getting new information about a topic. Journal also can be a method of teaching. Typical examples of online journals are literary journals, news and popular interest magazines, and ones devoted to specialty subject such as professional or academic publications in other words, e-learning.
What I was Found When I`m Used Online Journal??
IMPACT OF USING ICT IN EDUCATION
According to http://ijedict.dec.uwi.edu/printarticle.php?id=241&layout=html .The incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) into the educational curriculum has been promoted as a key step in bridging the digital divide.ICT promises to go at least some way towards empowering them by removing barriers to the access to information.
Appropriate use of ICT could enhance many aspects of life in developing countries from health to education to economic growth. Education is one area where ICT deployment and improved access to information promises to deliver tangible benefits. ICT lends itself to adopting a more people or learner-centred approach to education. Freire’s liberation theory (1970) stresses the importance of a dialogical approach to education. ICT can facilitate a pedagogical shift entailing an educational interaction between teachers and learners. ICT, if used correctly, can encourage and support a meaningful two-way, informational flow between teachers and learners, moving away from the old “banking” method of teaching where knowledge is simply transferred from teacher to student without any space for critical analysis on the part of the learner. Using ICT in education to produce ICT-literate students and a versatile, adaptable workforce is also consistent with the human capital theory of education.  ICT can contribute to solving education problems in Developing Countries.
I was found a lot of  types of inline jounal during I at PTSL cafe. I try to read some of the journal about education. I have about five journals from education aspects. I was read about
1. How to asking the right questions?                                                                                                                           2. What can teacher education programs doto prepare teachers to teach high-achieving culturally diverse male students?                                                                                                                               3. Reading Comprehension-Making Predictions
1.How to Asking The Right Questions?by Jane D. Hill and Kathleen Flynn
In classroom InstructionThat Works With English Language Learners, note that languge learning is not something that will just happen when english language learners are expose to english in a mainstream classroom. Instead, teachers need to make language learning purposeful, intentional, and explicit. A teacher is being intentional when she pays careful attention to her questions. questions that are not only aligned to a student`s stage of language acquisition but also focus on higher orderskills will allow ELLs to more fully engage in learning both language and content. Will it take additional time to prepare to engage all students in classroom activities? Yes, especially at first. But the payoff is huge – days of rich learning experiences for english language learners where a teacher, who previously felt helpless, is now confident that she has allowed her stidents to experience success in the classroom.
2. What Can Teacher Education Programs Do To Prepare Teachers to Teach High-Achieving Culturally Diverse Male Students?by H. Richard Milner, F. Blake Tenore, and Judson Laughter
The discussion is not meant to be presented as the way to prepare teachers to teach high-achieving culturally diverse male students. It is meant to serve as a way to start thinking about addressing this group of students in our teacher education programs. We urge teacher education programs to incorporate these strategies, philosiphies, and ideas into their teachereducation programs to possibly benefit the many culturally diverse male students who are overlooked , underserved, underrepresented in gifted programs across the nation.Doing business as usual is not the answer. In order to us to experience change, new policies, practices, and procedures need to be in place. Besides, high-achieving culturally diverse male students like all students deserve learning opportunities and experiences that bring out the very best in them.
3.Reading Comprehension-Making Predictions
This article is about the ways that you can followed for reading comprehension. It have 6 ways.Prediction Pop, Thumb-Trough Preview, What`s The Word?, Crystal Ball Connections, Backwards Predictions, and Curiousity Chart. It also have early childhood today online that all the activities, students can learn and improve basic skills while they make and enjoy art. www.schoolastic.com/ect
CONCLUSION
To sum up,from what I was found from the online journal, I can concluded that ICT is really important in our education system. We can get anything that we want from there. From ICT we also can improve our communication, writing, and everything skills that we need. I also found that using Ict also can improve our confident in education. We have alot of articles, or websites that prepared a lot of tips to our educators also students.  The failure of former students fully to exploit the resource of the Internet as a source of information on careers, job opportunities and college and training courses. This is an obvious consequence of the lack of Internet access in schools, and the absence of any meaningful introduction to the potential of the Internet in the course of computer training . This statement shows that ICT is really important in education nowadays.

COMPUTER ASSISTED WRITING

Assalamualaikum and hello to everyone. For my 2nd posting, the task is to analysed about computer assisted writing.

How does the computer recognize a good essay?
The Intelligent Essay Assessor, using the KAT engine, assesses the content of an essay, as well as more mechanical aspects of writing. When a student submits an essay for scoring, the system immediately measures the meaning of the essay. It then compares the essay to the training essays, looking for similarities, and assigns a holistic score in part by placing the essay in a category with the most similar training essays. Analytic scoring occurs in much the same way. For each trait, the system assesses that trait in the student essay, compares it to the training essays, and then categorizes the trait in question. ( according to http://www.knowledge-technologies.com/papers/IEA_FAQ.html#Q7 )

My 1st website that I was visiteh is : http://www.knowledge-technologies.com/papers/IEA_FAQ.html#Q7d . I was visited this website and I found that this website was prepared a guidelines for writing an essay and also a summary. I think that it is a good website that students should visit. This website also have activities that visitors can involve. Besides, I also try to write a summary and we can get a feedback about our summary. What I mean here is, this website was prepred us one long article, and then we can try to summarise that article. Then, they will be give feedback from the summary. This website also show the good summary, incompleted summary, and also the weak summary.

The 2nd website that I was chosen is www.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar . This website only covers the reading, writing and grammar component. So, it will be more focusing. I was found that from this website, students can improve their understanding about grammar bacause this website was prepared students quizzes to test them. Not only test them about grammar, but also provides a detailed explanation about the answer. This website also have the notes on quantifiers.

Besides grammar, this website also have the examples of a good essay that have all the things that we need in a complete essay. It teach us how to write a good essay with thesis statement, transitions, beginning, and the conclusion. Besides the structural considerations, this website also have writing process and patterns of organization that completed with all essays` patterns like cause and effect essay, describing a process, writing about literature and ect.

Furthermore, we can ask grammar problem in this website. This website have 176 types of quizzes. We can choose any type of that quizzes. This types are devided to 12 catogories.

1.Basic sentence parts

2.verbs and verbals

3. Clauses & phrases

4. Structural flaws

5. Punctuation and basic

6.Mechanics

7. Pronoun usage

8. Stylistic considerations

9. Notorious confuseables

10. Spelling

11. Vocabulary

12. General grammar quizzes

CONCLUSION

In my opinion, I think that this website is really good as a computer assisted writing. We can improve our writing skills.
